If you’re a highly active woodworker who enjoys working on a wide variety of projects, books may still be a bit limiting. You have a hundred plans, but only 2 or 3 you’re interested in for the next few months. You could easily end up with dozens of books around the house. Of course, you’re probably in trouble for bringing them back in the house. When you’re using them in the shop, the books will be filled up with saw dust. Once you bring them back in the house to look through, you’ll start leaving saw dust on the table, or scattered about the house. You may suddenly be in charge of running the house vacuum, instead of your ShopVac.
As soon as I figured this out, my woodworking confidence went through the roof!
Most woodworking enthusiasts get intimidated by the fact that woodworking will be a costly affair and hence never even get started. For those of you on a budget, there is still hope. Not everyone need purchase the latest and greatest equipment in the market in order to work on woodworking projects. There are many cost-effective alternatives present and you can definitely avail them.
One of the biggest challenges of woodworkers is finding consistent, high quality plans. You can just keep browsing the internet looking at site after site of woodwork designs, but then you do not get consistency in quality, or instructions.
The objective is to open the pores to restore the aroma that is waiting to be let loose. There are a couple of ways you can do this. One method is to very lightly sand the surface using a fine 200 grit sandpaper on a sanding block. What this will do is the sandpaper will penetrate the pores and will open up pockets in the wood where the precious cedar oil is contained. Be very careful with the sanding though as you don’t want to end up with scratch marks. This is avoidable if you sand in the same direction as the grain. You will find that it’s not going to take much sanding before you smell the aroma of the cedar once again.
Most woodworkers prefer to have their hands busy working with their tools, and not spending time running around looking for plans and woodwork designs. Having thousands of plans ready to get started on at any moment may be the finest present you can give yourself.
